"Birth of the Owl Butterflies" by Ruth Sharman (Picador, 1997)

Disappointing. Small ideas tidily executed. Enough for a pamphlet. Often dips for a few poems then recovers only to sink again - e.g. "The Hold" and "The Rain" are ok, then there's the fluffy "Almost Summer" the overlong "The Funeral" and then yet another "old-lady-making-jam" poem. I liked "On Seeing" most.
