"Adrian Mole: The Collected Poems" by Sue Townsend (Lily Broadway Productions, 2017)

They're sometimes cringey. Just occasionally they remind me of my pieces. But they're not funny enough often enough. I liked "They give us Job Creating Schemes/When what we want are hopes and dreams" (end of p.14), and the end of "Daffodils" -"Brave green stalks supporting yellow bonnets./ Like the wife of a man who writes Love Sonnets".

Other reviews

  • Martina Evans (Unless you know Adrian Mole, these poems can’t stand alone. We need Townsend’s witty prose, which is tighter, sharper and more poetic in its own right: “I have never seen a dead body or a female nipple. This is what comes from living in a cul de sac.”)
