"Last Bus to Woodstock" by Colin Dexter

An audio book. My first Morse book. I liked the depiction of Morse, and how his mind worked. The plot's psychologically unconvincing, depending on an assumption of widespread sudden, murderous anger and of sexual desire (not least of young women for older men).

The 3 women characters living together form one subset of characters, and the academics at the same college form another. Towards the end Morse does some investigating that we're not told about so that the final reveal can be longer and contain more surprises (for us and Lewis).

  • Vishy (There are different story strands running here and there seemingly without any focus. When we discover the identity of the murderer in the end, it is so surprising, that we feel that this person has been plonked into the story in the end to shock us. There is also some romance between Inspector Morse and one of the characters and I found it so lame)
