"Death of a Gossip" by M.C. Beaton

Very cosy. A couple, Heather and John, run a flyfishing school in Scotland. Hamish is the 35 y.o. constable. Lady Jane is in the small group. She seems to have uncovered secrets about the others - the major who cheats at angling, the prospective MP Jeremy who had an affair with a maid, etc. Alice, 19, is insecure about her body and class, and is open to upwardly mobile offers. She has a minor criminal record (breaking a window for a dare). Charles (12), has divorced parents. There's an American couple - the father has a criminal past and wouldn't mind paying to get rid of Lady Jane. Hamish would like to investigate a murder so he could earn more money.

Lady Jane is found dead in the river. Detectives arrive. Lady Jane was a London gossip columnist.

Priscilla is sleeping with Hamish. Her father has her lined up with aristocracy. Alice starts sleeping with Jeremy. Jeremy is sleeping with Daphne.

Charles' mother has confused things by planting evidence to implicate herself (so that Charles doesn't get the blame - though there's nothing to suggest he was guilty). The American wife suspects her husband was the murderer. In the end the suspects are assembled and Hamish says that the American wife been a stripper and was the murderer. She confesses.

No.
