"The Memory Tray" by Deryn Rees-Jones (seren, 1994)

The blurb quotes "strange geographies of hurt", which is a shame because the book's not bad initially. It goes flat in the middle then livens up towards the end with a variety that offers hope. Uses 2-line stanzas when prose threatens.
