"Scattering Eva" by James Sheard (Cape, 2005)

Beyond me. Nothing remotely crass, and many phrases worth quoting. But even then, some clinching images puzzle me. Here's the final couplet of "Tender"

These nights, I wedge my gut to the mattress side.
Snores slide like pinecones between my teeth.
